Get-A-Ride
If driving is a challenge for you, STARS can help by providing non-emergency medical transportation. Check out if you’re eligible, find out how it works, and signup by calling one of our volunteer Dispatchers.
And while we’d love to accept tips, our Drivers are only able to accept donations as checks to AFSC/STARS. Find out more about that below, and help us keep this valuable service going through your donation.
-
Residents in Sisters school district.
Passengers going to a Doctor, Dentist, Lab, Testing, or Physical Therapy appointment in Sisters, Bend, or Redmond.
Ambulatory Passengers – STARS does not provide rides to people who require wheelchairs or scooters; riders must be able to get into and out of vehicles with little assistance from drivers.
Passengers whose appointments do not require sedation; possible if accompanied by a companion.
Passengers able to give 48 hours or more advance notice before needing a ride.
-
Call STARS at 541-904-5545 on Tuesday or Thursday 10 am to 3 pm to talk to a Dispatcher who will answer questions and create a passenger profile in our online ride booking software. Once a profile is completed, it will remain in the STARS system for future ride requests.
Passengers are asked to provide their name, physical address, mailing address, phone number, email address (optional), and an emergency contact including phone and email address.
Passengers will also be asked to indicate mobility status (cane, walker) and additional needs (companion, appt. check in assistance).

STARS provides curb-to-curb transportation services free to the passenger. Rides are given by volunteers who use their own cars to help their neighbors. STARS drivers provide transportation Monday – Friday from 8:00 am until 5 pm. Once a Passenger books a ride with a Dispatcher, the request is sent electronically to all drivers. An available driver will confirm the ride and call the passenger directly.
Appointment information will be verified by the driver who will show up at the Passenger’s requested pick-up time.
If an appointment is canceled, it is the Passenger’s responsibility to call their driver and to notify the STARS Dispatcher. The Dispatcher voicemail is monitored for cancellations even in off hours.
If a driver has an emergency and must cancel, passengers will be notified and every effort will be made to find another driver.

STARS drivers cannot accept tips but are able to accept donations. If a passenger wants to show their appreciation, they may donate via check to STARS and the funds will be used to support operations and show appreciation to STARS drivers.
Checks may be given to the driver or mailed to STARS PO Box 3500 PMB 422 Sisters, OR 97759.
Drivers may also have SASE envelopes available, just ask.
Passengers may also use the DONATE link on this website.
