Meet our Executive Director and Board of Directors
My name is Rennie Morrell and I’ve been with STARS since it was a twinkle in the eye of the Sisters community. I have a management background retiring from the US Navy in 1995 and completing an MBA at the University of San Diego in 1998. I worked as an organizational behavior consultant for a technology company in Minneapolis until moving to Sisters permanently in 2000.
I happily offer STARS my skills as a leader, organizer and communicator.
My name is Christy Corzine and I joined STARS as a volunteer driver. Later, working with an amazing team of passionate volunteers, I helped STARS obtain independent nonprofit corporation status. My masters of science degree in Natural Resource Economics specialized in rural community planning, and I enjoyed a 41-year career as a transportation industry management consultant. It is my pleasure to serve as the first Board Chair for STARS, and I appreciate any input to help us continue to make STARS a sustainable service in our community.
I love our community and want it to be a place where we can easily celebrate and support each other.
My name is Gayle Sawyer and I joined the STARS team after retiring from my work as a paralegal and office manager for a local law firm. I have lived in Sisters since 2001 and was inspired to volunteer with STARS after seeing my elderly parents experience difficulty getting to some of their medical appointments prior to the birth of STARS.
It is an honor to serve alongside this outstanding group of caring people.
My name is Susan Utterbacks and I am a retired CPA who spent over 30 years assisting non-profit organizations with their financial needs, primarily in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. After retiring in 2022, I relocated to Sisters, Oregon, to enjoy a drier climate and to pursue my passion for outdoor recreation, particularly fly fishing. I first learned about STARS through other community members when I needed transportation for cataract surgery.
My positive experience with the organization led me to taking on the role of treasurer, to use my extensive financial expertise to help STARS.
DIRECTOR AT LARGE - OPERATIONS
My name is Tom Gonsiewski and I have been with STARS since the beginning in 2019. I have a degree in Community Development from Portland State University. I spent 36 years working for Tri-Met, the Portland area transit agency in operations as a driver and in Customer Service managing the Agency's Ticket Office.
I retired in 2016 and moved to Sisters where I have found a perfect home for my skills volunteering with STARS.
DIRECTOR AT LARGE - TECHNOLOGY
My name is John Finley and I am STARS Director of Information Technology and Driver Manager. My career started when I went to work for EDS as a computer operator in 1977 after graduating from Arizona State University with a BS in Business Management, working as a Systems Engineer and Infrastructure Engineer for several large companies including Crocker and Wells Fargo banks. I was a managing partner and founder of a technology company in the San Francisco Bay Area providing networking and computer systems design, installation, and support for 7 years.
I joined STARS as a driver in 2021 because I love to drive and wanted to help provide a needed service for the Sisters community.
Advisory Board Members
Toni Landis
My name is Toni Landis. I am proud to say I was one of the original STARS visionaries and am honored to have helped nurture STARS, watching it grow into the successful non-profit it has become. Some forty years ago sun and community brought me to Central Oregon. I came with a background in Organizational Psychology, a yen for new opportunities and 75 llamas. For many of those years I owned and operated a llama ranch in Sisters and a contracting company serving Deschutes County. Throughout I have remained a committed citizen volunteer for Sisters. The benefits of living, working and participating in this wonderful Sisters community were tenfold and far exceeded my expectations!
I remain committed to supporting STARS and it’s volunteers in working to provide a sustainable, valuable community ride service.
