Meet our Executive Director and Board of Directors
My name is Rennie Morrell and I have been with STARS since it was a twinkle in the eyes of our community. I have a management background retiring from the US Navy in 1995 and completing an MBA at the University of San Diego in 1998. I worked as an organizational behavior consultant for a technology company in Minneapolis until moving to Sisters permanently in 2000. I happily offer STARS my skills as a leader, organizer and communicator.
My name is Christy Corzine. I love our community and want it to be a place where it’s easy for us to celebrate and support each other. I joined STARS as a volunteer driver, and then, working with an amazing team of volunteers with passion for our mission, helped STARS obtain independent nonprofit corporation status. I have a master of science degree in Natural Resource Economics and specialize in rural community planning. I spent much of my 41-year career as a management consultant to the transportation industry, including the Federal Highway Administration, Federal Transit Administration, State DOTs, regional transit agencies, and local public works departments. It is my pleasure to serve as the first Board Chair for STARS, and I welcome any input or suggestions on how we can continue to make STARS a sustainable service in our community.
My name is Gayle Sawyer and I joined the STARS team after retiring from my work as a paralegal and office manager for a local law firm. I have lived in Sisters since 2001 and was inspired to volunteer with STARS after seeing my elderly parents experience difficulty getting to some of their medical appointments prior to the birth of STARS. It is an honor to serve alongside this outstanding group of caring people.
My name is Susan UtterbackS and I am a retired CPA who spent over 30 years assisting non-profit organizations with their financial needs, primarily in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. After retiring in 2022, I relocated to Sisters, Oregon, to enjoy a drier climate and to pursue my passion for outdoor recreation, particularly fly fishing. I first learned about STARS through other community members when I needed transportation for cataract surgery. My positive experience with the organization led me to taking on the role of treasurer, where I will use my extensive financial expertise to help STARS.
DIRECTOR AT LARGE - OPERATIONS
My name is Tom Gonsiewski and I have been with STARS since the beginning in 2019. I have a degree in Community Development from Portland State University. I spent 36 years working for Tri-Met, the Portland area transit agency in operations as a driver and in Customer Service managing the Agency's Ticket Office. I retired in 2016 and moved to Sisters where I have found a perfect home for my skills volunteering with STARS.
DIRECTOR AT LARGE - TECHNOLOGY
My name is John Finley and I am STARS Director of Information Technology and Driver Manager. My career started when I went to work for EDS as a computer operator in 1977 after graduating from Arizona State University with a BS in Business Management. I have been a Systems Engineer and Infrastructure Engineer for a number of companies including Crocker and Wells Fargo banks, IBM, ROLM, and The Doctors Company. I was a managing partner and founder of a technology company in the San Francisco Bay Area providing networking and computer systems design, installation, and support for 7 years. I joined STARS as a driver in 2021 because I love to drive and wanted to help provide a needed service for the Sisters community.
