Dispatch for us

STARS dispatchers are critically important as they are our first contact with our passengers. Dispatching is an easy way to volunteer from home one or two days a month and help those who need rides to medical appointments.

  • Dispatchers must have:

    • A desire to serve the community

    • A telephone

    • A computer

    • Email access

    • Communication skills

  • A Dispatcher must:

    • Complete an online application where they will submit personal information and will agree to the STARS Code of Ethics

    • Complete a training and mentoring session on using STARS on-line software.

    • Pass a Background Check.

    • Create and maintain an online profile with name, address, telephone and email contact information.

  • Training will cover all the details of being a STARS dispatcher, but generally dispatchers will:

    • Login to the dispatcher application on their shift days and assume control of managing STARS ride booking and monitoring.

    • Book rides on their Dispatcher Dashboard gathering passenger names, address pick up time/date, appointment time, place, appointment duration, mobility issues and any other special information.

    • Monitor their dispatcher dashboard to make sure riders have drivers.

    • Communicate with passengers and drivers as needed.

    • Make decisions when ride cancellations are required.

    • Be assisted by the Dispatch Manager as needed.
